I've had two cases in the last month where a large amount of water leaked from somewhere near the top of the freezer. The first time, it was just enough to coat the walls, shelves, and much of the food inside the freezer with thin ice or frost but nothing came out of the freezer onto the floor. I thought that the door had perhaps been left open and didn't think much of it. A few weeks later, my daughter opened the freezer door and a flood of water came rushing out onto the floor. I would estimate more than a gallon based on what I sucked into the Shopvac. Again, it seemed to come from the top of the freezer. I turned the water off to the fridge at the wall and left it for a few days. Tonight, I turned the water back on, filled water from the water dispenser, allowed it to make ice for a couple hours, etc. and no problems. So it's some sort of intermittent problem.
The only thing I can figure out is that it's something with the ice maker not shutting off occasionally. Is this possible? Any other ideas? I'd rather not drop almost $200 on the icemaker for a fridge this old if there's something simpler that could be causing this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like two possibilities. The water valve is leaking or the ice maker is doing it.
Turn the ice maker off and see if it still foods. If it does, its the water valve.
If it doesn't flood, Its the ice maker.
