Water dispenser won't shut off after filter change— coincidence?

Greetings, all!
I have a Kitchenaid KSRP25FNWH00 side-by-side fridge, in service since 2005. Yesterday I changed the water filter cartridge. Later in the day, after getting a glass of water from the freezer door dispenser, the dispenser kept running. I closed the water valve to the fridge and it stopped. Could the new filter have anything to do with the malfunction? I wouldn't think so, but it seems to be too great a coincidence.
Another clue: I replaced the water inlet valve in 2016 when the dispenser would not stop dripping. The valve part number is (or was) Whirlpool W1048179. Could that replacement have failed so soon?
Thanks for your thoughts.

UPDATE: After waiting overnight, I restored the water feed to the fridge, and the dispenser is not running freely, but dripping slowly. Will replace the inlet valve. Edited by user Saturday, August 14, 2021 8:47:38 AM(UTC)
