2004 Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II Washer. 3-speed motor and all the bells and whistles.
Washer was in good shape when bought a year ago so I did not go completely through it. It worked very well for a year.
PROBLEM
Video link to the problem:
https://buffalodream.smu...Hill-Loop-NE/i-GHwgSQt/AThis is proving to be a challenging problem!
This washer uses the 3-speed motor 8529935. The motor acts like it is starving for current so it can't reach phase-synchronous rpm. Instead, it cycles between start-up and running windings as determined by centifugal mechanism rpm.
The more loaded the motor is, the faster it cycles. The video show the problem out of the washer on the ground, but it's the same in the washer, and it happens in every part of the wash cycle.
ELIMINATIONS
- Muticonnector terminals. All were checked and found tight and clean. The appliance reseller had changed out one of the terminals as it had gotten hot (then it worked fine for a year). The connections all look great.
-Capacitor was changed to another, a 40 mF, with no change in symptoms. Have a new capacitor coming.
-Timer 854379 C. Complex, 3-connector timer with A LOT of contact fingers! Most are straight. A few are pre bent. One seems bent too much but I did not change it, thinking the manufacturer intended it that way. I found several of the point contacts carboned up a bit. I cleaned them with 400-grit emery paper. No change.
-Two different motors were tried and both cycle the same way.
-Gearbox, excellent, fully functioning, and now with fresh oil.
-Pump, the pump was pulled off while the motor was cycling. The cycling rate slowed as a result of the small reduced load, but was not eliminated.
-Motor coupler is undamaged and tight.
-Wiring harness crimp connectors. Check and compressed them all. No change.
-Other connectors. All were checked and the terminals lubed. No change.
