I have a whirlpool top freezer model fridge WRT771REYMOO. I used to just press and hold the water filter reset button for 3 or 4 seconds, it would beep and then the indicator would stay off (the user manual says around 6 months before it trips again). Used to work now the indicator won't stay off. It doesn't matter how new the filter is of course (I really doubt there is a sensor of any kind - it's strictly time based). So why does the control module have issues with it's clock now ? The beeping is driving me nuts. Is there a way to at least turn off the sound (aside from taking it apart and desoldering the beeper) ?

It sounds like the control module is failing and causing it to trip when ever it wants. Depending on the age of the freezer, it may be time to replace it. icemakergeeks.com
