Hi. I am in the middle of replacing the drive bearings. the smaller one came out no problem. The big one came apart. The inner race and balls came out, but the outer race is stuck in the metal sleeve in the rear half outer tub. I have pounded for over an hour 180 degrees pound method ()Don't have a bearing puller/slide hammer. I used a lot of penetrating spray as well. I am looking to see if you have any recommendations for getting it out? I have new versions of both bearings, new seal, and a new outer tub gasket ready to install.

Also the spider is structurally sound, but has a little surface rust. I lightly sanded those areas with 1000 grit sand paper. Is it better to keep it as is, or should I repaint it? If so, is there a type of paint you recommend?
