Our WP Duet, model WED9400VE, electric dryer was bought new in 2009 and has been trouble free until now.

Symptoms are as follows; 1) power supply is correct, 2) when power button is pressed, control panel lights and audio tone activate normally, 3) all control buttons function normally, including the "Pause/Cancel" button, 4) the drum light turns on and off with the control panel button, 5) the drum light turns on and off when the door is opened/closed, 6) lint screens and vent are clean, 7) prior to this, there was no burning smell at any time, 8) when start button is pressed, nothing happens.

In order of probability, what are the likely causes of these symptoms?

All appearances are perfectly normal until the start button is pressed, which results in no further operation - no lights, no tones, no reaction at all to the button being pressed.
