Maytag MFB2055YEM

The defrost has quit, just 6 months out of warranty.

I've narrowed the cause to the Thermistor or the control board.

The defrost heater continuity, and related parts are good. I haven't been able to find the control panel key sequence to force defrost. Anyone know what it is ?

Is there a way to diagnose the control board ?

Thanks in advance.

Here are your parts

See the attachment for the tech sheet.
It has how to force a defrost cycle.

There is no good way to troubleshoot the board so.

If defrost works when you force it but not during normal operation it is probably the board.
OR
If defrost does not work when you force it but the defrost heater/thermostat combo measures OK with a meter then it again is probably the board.

I had the same problem with my Maytag mfb2055yem02 fridge.

Ice would form behind the freezer wall and it would eventually hinder the fan's movement which would make a mechanic noise. The fridge temperature would drop as cold air could not be supplied to the top compartment.

After removing the freezer's rear wall and melting the ice with a blow-dryer, the problem would manifest itself again two or three weeks later.

Replacing the thermistor (part W10902214) fixed this problem for my freezer. The thermistor is located on the suction line behind the back wall of the freezer compartment.

The following instructions were provided with the new thermistor and illustrate how to replace it.

This should also apply to Maytag models mfb2055yem00 and mfb2055yem01.
