I believe this fridge is around 4-7 yrs old. 2nd owner as I knew previous owners of house prior to current.

Neighbor lady said water wasn't working. Pushed water button and would hear noise as I hear on my whirlpool at home where water pump or something kicks in.

Replaced water filter as it was unknown when last replaced. When I put the new water filter in the fridge I didn't hear it fill with water as mine makes a filling noise at home.

Today I plan on going by and shutting house water main off and disconnecting the line then turning water on as the shutoff isn't located in the utility room as it should be. I think the original homeowner (knew him to) just tapped in directly below the kitchen which is above the basement living room instead of going 15ft to the utility room.

House is on 5th homeowner since new in fall of 2000. I've lived next door since Feb 2001.

So the question I have is when I go back today if I have water going into the fridge then what would I need to check next and if so I'massuming I'll need my multimeter as that's common with any electronics.

My guess would be a faulty inlet water valve but I'm no expert. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To add a little more information I did have to replace the water line connector where it comes from under the fridge to the bottom of the freezer door as the plastic coupler had a broken line in it. Even after that there wasn't any water. There's no ice being made either. I also want to add that the new homeowner had called the previous owner (they're friends) and the previous homeowners according to her told her that you have to press the water filter button several times I believe she mentioned. There's a language barrier in play as well as the families are Nepali so understanding them can be rough at times.

IF there's a way to bypass the inlet valve to see if the valve is bad I do have someone that can assist me there in the house.

Found the unlikely source. No water pressure to the fridge thru the water line and the rookie original owner never ran a line from the utility room but rather somewhere else which I'll have to open up the basement ceiling as it's probably the pipe piercing type. After I get the old shut down then I'll run a new line. Can't believe the rookie things people do.

Just something I learned after years of doing it both ways.

Put your valve on a vertical pipe. Valves placed on horizontal pipes are much more likely to plug up with debris and corrosion from the pipe.

Water pressure isn't the same as water volume. Always verify the the amount of water will be enough to do what you are needing it for.

I've had more than a few times it seemed like there was plenty of pressure, but not enough volume to fill an ice maker in time.
