I have a Kenmore Series 90 dryer, about eight or nine years old, which my wife and I bought used. It trips the breaker when the door is opened (at any time, whether running or not, and the breaker won't reset if the door is open). I figure it's the door switch, especially since it didn't trip the breaker when I taped the switch down, closed the door, plugged it in, and opened it again.

That said, it's unlike the symptoms of other door switch issues I've seen, and because of that I wanted to check in and make sure I'm barking up the right tree.

You need to check the wiring to the door switch and the light and socket inside the dryer.

When you open the door, it should be turning on the light. Instead you have a short to ground. look for a pinched wire or spot were the insulation is worn or chewed away.
