The drum on my Amana dryer spins intermittently. Sometimes it spins, sometimes it doesn't.Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you be more specific on the problem?

Hi Gene,
Thanks for your quick and prompt response,
not being very mechanically inclined I don't have any idea where to begin to troubleshoot. Perhaps you could shed some light on one or two things that I can look at or try. Basically when we go to use the dryer sometimes the drum will spin and the clothes are nice and dry, and sometimes it does not spin. Just tried it right now with no clothes in it,,worked fine....I don't know Gene ,it's like when you take your car to the mechanic and all of a sudden no problem

The problem you described looks very unusual and it's very hard to say what can cause it, especially because it's intermittent. Keep use the dryer until it will do it more often.

Hi Gene,
No it didn't make any noise, and when I try to spin the drum by hand, it feels kind of hard. Ray

Ray, In such situation I would disassemble the dryer and check all moving parts (the drum support rollers, the idler pulley, the motor, the blower wheel etc). Sounds like there is an excessive tension somewhere inside and might be a simple cleaning and lubrication can solve the problem. You can find the disassembly instructions in the Service manual. Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for AMANA LEA50AW | AppliancePartsPros.comGene.
