WE HAVE A GE WASHER THAT EITHER WHEN FIRST STARTING A LOAD OF WASH OR AFTER A SPIN CYCLE WHEN THE TUB IS FILLING BACK UP WITH WATER YOU CAN HEAR THE WATER DRAINING BACK OUT THE DISCHARGE HOSE AND THE WASHER WILL NOT FILL. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. ITS ALMOST LIKE THE PUMP THAT DRAINS THE WATER ON THE SPIN CYCLE IS STAYING OPEN AND ALOWING THE WATER JUST DRAIN BACK OUT.. NEED HELP????

I am assuming that the pump isn’t actually on just that the water is running out. It sounds to me like the water is siphoning out. Which a few things can cause.
- The drain is taped up solid to the drainpipe. Normally when people do this it is because if its not taped the water backs out and into the floor during drain if this is the cause you need to install a siphoning break. This will allow you to tape the drain up solid so that water will not back out and give the drain air so that it will not siphon.
- If the drain hose is pushed down I the drainpipe too far the washer will do the same thing simply pull it up to within 6 inches of the end of the drainpipe.
- If the drainpipe is too low (below the desired water level) to fix this either extend the drainpipe or tie the drain hose up high and then down to the drainpipe.

Thank You For Your Quick Reply.. I Dont Believe That The Pump Is Running I Am Sure I Would Hear It. The Drain Hose Is Tied Up To The Back Of The Washer Near The Top(above Tank) Then It Goes Down In The Drain. It Does Seem Like The Water In The Tank Fills To Just About The Level Of The Drain Pipe(which Is About 1 Foot Below Top Of Tank) Before It Starts To Drain And Only Drains Down To The Level Of The Drain Pipe. I Have Taken Your Advice And Pulledthe Hose Up Out Of The Drain Pipe A Bit So I Will See If That Works..we Wash Alot Of Clothes(7 People In Our House) So It Wont Take Long To Find Out If That Works..

Hello Again, Like I Said It Would Not Take Long To Find Out If That Worked. After Pulling Up Hose Out Of Drain About 4 Inches Or So I Still Have The Same Problem. Let Me Add That To Try And Correct The Problem We Put The Washer On The Spin Cycle To Drain Out The Water And Restarted The Wash From The Begining And Most Times This Will Fix The Problem For A Couple Of Washes Then We Are Right Back To The Begining Of The Problem

If the drain pipe is a foot below the top of the tub try (if you can get to it) extending the drain pipe above the top of the tub using a coupling a[FONT='Times New Roman']nd a short piece of pipeyou can buy from any plumbing house. If you can’t get to the drainpipe to do this try tying the drain hose up even higher. [/FONT]
Note that extending the drainpipe up is the much better way to fix your problem.

Ok, We Could Not Extend The Drain Pipe Up. Neither Could I Lift The Drain Hose Any Higher Than I Have It. But I Did Pull The Drain Hose Out Of The Drain Another Couple Of Inches And Tied It Up So It Would Not Fall Back In The Drain Pipe..the Good News Is So Far It Seems To Be Working.. We Have Washed A Few Loads Since Then And Have Not Had The Problem.. Thank You Very Much For Your Help!!!!
