Lighting hit my house both fans in refrigerator went out, I replaced them they came on and run fine. My freezer side stays about -10 fridge side Freeze's everything thing from second shelf down. Replaced thermostat didn't help, changed again they said possible got a bad one. Didn't help. Went to a different place they thought could be cheap part so bought another one still continues to run. It shuts off about ever 8hours I'm told that's a defrost cycle. Any clue.

When the refrigerator is running, can you feel air blowing through the vent at the top, left side of the fresh food side? It should be coming in fast enough to easily feel it.

The fact that you are freezing things in the lower part of your frig. makes me wonder if the cold air is just settling to the bottom and the thermostat sensor tube isn't getting cold enough to shut the compressor off.

Another thing to check is the vent near the crisper drawer. It needs to be open and not blocked by food or ice.
