The other day I noticed the broiler element in our 11 year old Frigidaire stopped working. I assumed the element went bad and removed it.
However, when I check the resistance of the element, I'm getting a reading of about 16.6 ohms after the meter stops jumping around. This does not seem to be indicative of a bad element.
When I check the voltage going to the element, I'm getting about 60 volts on the high setting. Surely this should be 220-240V.
My first question, is that an acceptable resistance for the element?
Secondly, what should the voltage be that is going to the element? Shouldn't it be a full 240V or would this vary according to the temperature?
Finally, I'm kind of surprised how much this element is to replace. It doesn't look that much different from other elements that are about the same size, shape, etc. Can another element be used in its place? What is the difference between a baking element and a broiling element?
I know the standard answer to my last set of questions is to just by the OEM element, but I would still like to see some objective answers to my questions.
Thank you in advance!

Does anyone have any advice regarding this issue?
