Hot fill works fine. Cold fill works fine. When warm is selected, the fill begins warm, but cycles to cold after about 20 seconds, and never cycles back.

History: The fill valve stuttered badly, and was replaced. The temperature selector switch was also replaced.

This washer is pretty basic with no electronics or control board that I can see. I suspect the replacement fill valve may have a bad thermistor, but I cannot find any information on how to troubleshoot it. I would appreciate any thoughts on getting warm water to work. I know the machine is old, but it works fine, and I don't see replacing it right now.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Keep in mind the temp selector switch might be at fault. If you still have the old one try it.

Thank you for the reply, brobriffin. Neither the original nor the replacement temperature selector switch affects the issue. When set to warm, I initially get warm water, but after about 20 seconds, the hot shuts off and does not cycle back on.

Is it possible to test the thermistor or otherwise troubleshoot this issue? I truly hate to throw parts at a problem.

Thanks!

When you say you initially get warm is it actually warm to the touch, is your hot water tank so close that it comes through the line within 20 seconds?

You said in original post 'hot fill works fine' and 'cold fill works fine'
is there any chance the hot and cold lines are on backwards?

If the temperature selector switch is good and the water lines are connected properly it is very likely the thermistor isn't functioning properly.

You can test the thermistor however after researching I can not find what the resistance in ohms should read.

Although your other valves shuttered perhaps its thermister is good, try taking a reading from both your old and new then compare the readings. The resistance reading should decrease as the temperature increases.

Thanks again for the quick response!

When set to hot, the water is hot. Same for cold. This tells me the temperature selector is working correctly and the lines are not reversed.

The water heater is adjacent to the washer, and hot is very quick. It is a large gas heater with plenty of reserve. The lines are connected correctly and the filters are clean. Flow from both hot and cold are strong.

To date I have replaced the fill valve, the temperature selector switch, checked the hoses for proper connection, and inspected all connections and wires for a possible break. The problem continues to be the same:
When set to warm, the water is initially mixed and warm water is provided. After a period of time, the hot valve shuts off, and only cold is delivered, resulting in a cold wash.

My issue does not seem to be typical. Unfortunately, I do not have the old fill valve or another one to compare resistance. I will try to find a schematic for the machine to see if there could be any other reasons for this. The old paper schematic is gone.

Thanks!

I found the wiring diagram. Unfortunately it doesn't show the resistance rating of the thermistor.

Thank you for the wiring diagram. It pretty much assures me there is nothing else in the circuit that could cause this issue. I appreciate the help.
