Need a little more confirmation before I spend the money on a new timer for a Kenmore 800 Gas Dryer

The timer in Auto Moisture Sensing mode, starting in "More Dry" will heat and tumble for as long as the timer takes to approach the "Normal Dry" setting. At which point the dryer shuts off as though it is done. You cannot start the dryer in "Normal Dry" mode. If you turn the dial past "Normal Dry" it will not restart unless you push the start button again, and then it will complete it's cycle. If you place the mode select to any timed dry, 90 minutes all the way down to 10 and start the dryer, it will continue to dry until it gets to the "OFF"icial mode :D .

Changing any of the other setting does nothing to change this result.

I was pretty certain that the timer was bad in the "Normal" zone until I started Googling it and it appears that there could be a microcomputer as well which could cause a similar problem.

Are there any other things that I can check or am I looking at the correct tree?

Thank you for any assistance.

Sounds like a timer to me. Just to clarify though, if the dryer stops for any reason (door opened, power interrupted, etc...) it should not restart without pressing the start button; that's normal behavior.

Thank you for confirming my initial theory on the problem, I'll probably just order up a timer and replace it since all evidence points to that.

As for dryer shutoff and the non-restart, had I not added that bit of info, somebody would have inevitably asked if it was restarting after the shutdown, ie. if the timer continued on and restarted the dryer. So I answered the question before it was asked.

You know the old saying, "More info is always better."

Thanks again.
