My Washer recently started no to Agitate during cycles, it appears to be happening regardless of the load in it. I've looked online at several places, but they all reference a diagnostic code I can do to test all the cycles. However, my model doesn't have any Lights, just dials.

Does anyone know how I can get into test mode?

Would also like to know how to take the back off so I can look in it and check for any loose items that might have gotten stuck somewhere. I can get the lower end of if off, but cannot remove it from the top area, it is still attached.

Here's an image of my washer's settings.

first do not go in thru the back
it may be either the coupler
Whirlpool 285852A Heavy Duty Motor Coupling - AppliancePartsPros.com
watch the video in this link to get access
it may also be the lid switch
Whirlpool WP8318084 Lid Switch - AppliancePartsPros.com
again watch the video on how to access

does the machine spin if you advance the dial?
if not can you hear the motor running?

Thanks for your response.

Yes, if you advance the dial it will continue through the wash cycle.
If you let let the cycle run its course it will go through the whole wash cycle as if nothing is wrong. The only thing that it does not do is Agitate.

The Washer, fills, empties and spins. During the wash when it is supposed to be Agitating, it does not, however, you can hear the motor, but nothing happens.

::EDIT::
Oh, the Lid switch works fine. The Wash Cycle will stop/pause when open. When closed it will continue.

::UPDATE::
I was able to get the front as per instruction of the video in the link, and I thank you for that, it was very helpful. Here's what I found.

I was able to remove the motor coupling and check it. Photos are located below.
The Upon inspection the grommet/coupler looks good, however there is one of the holes that has a slight tare. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/...HFmLUE/view?usp=sharing). I don't believe this would cause an issue, but it could cause it to be loose Your thoughts?

As I stated before the latch seems to work as it should. In the second video I open and close the latch, it pauses when Open and continues when closed.

Video of Washer in process.

Again, thanks for the reply and information.

Cool videos
helps us help you......
Ok so the coupler and lid switch are good!
and the gearcase will spin however it seems it is not working properly in agitation mode.
To verify it is not worn out splines on the plastic part of the agitator pole can you spin the bottom section of the agitator fins by hand freely or not?
If the bottom fins spin freely the spines might be worn out, however I suspect the transmission (gearcase) needs to be replaced.

Watch Matt in this video to see how to access both.

You will have to reinstall the agitator after installing the new gearcase, which wasn't shown in the video during reassembly.

Ok so I do not hear the plastic agitator slipping on the spline. You can verify that by removing it as shown in the video. look inside the lower section of the agitator to see if the teeth that slide over the driveshafts spline are intact. if they are then it seems like you need to replace your gearcase.
Here is the part you will need.

Hi,
I'm late to the party, but am experiencing about the exact thing the original poster was experiencing. I got the washer used and I'm hoping is a cheap and easy fix. The agitator on my Maytag Centennial (no lights) moves A LITTLE, but I feel like it should move more. It goes through everything else in the wash cycle just fine, just not agitating much.

Thoughts?
