Hi,

I'm having an issue with my Whirlpool dishwasher. The water is not getting up to a high enough temperature during the wash cycle even though the dry cycle works fine. The dishwasher is plumbed to the hot water line and has been working fine for the past 4+ years.

I first noticed this problem a couple weeks ago and thought that the heating element or thermostat may have gone bad, but both tested successfully for continuity. I actually replaced the thermostat anyway, thinking it might be bad but the problem persists. I also was able to run the service diagnostic cycle on the dishwasher and the heating element activated during the shortened dry cycle during diagnostics.

I checked the water temperature 20-30 minutes into the wash cycle and it is only at 82-85F. The dry cycle is working fine so I'm a bit stumped as to why the water temp is so low. I'm worried that this may be a control board board problem, an expensive repair for a dishwasher so old.

Any suggestions for what else to check? Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Eric

The problem turned out to be the heating element after all. The continuity test passed, but I missed corrosion at one spot that was causing the resistance to test way off. When I retested it, I realized the problem.

Removing and replacing the heating element fixed the problem. Thanks for the great resource!
