I don't clean the coils of my fridge enough - probably every 2 years or so. The last 2-3 times I cleaned the coils, I've noticed the insulation (or what I assume is insulation) is all torn apart. In fact, it looks like dust until you remove the actual dust. Is that insulation necessary? Is there an insulation pad that I should purchase to replace it, or should I just rip out what's there? It's in terrible shape so I don't see what good it's doing right now.
