Dryer quit drying. Opened it up and found heating element was bad(one coil broken). Replaced the element and put it back together. Attempted to operate but it kept tripping the breaker. Took it apart and found that I missed connecting one wire. I replaced the connector and proceeded to reasemble it. Once completed, plugged it back in and instantly heating element got hot. Turned the timer to off and all was well. Turned the timer back to a run position and the heating element got hot again without hitting the start switch.
I took it all apart again, disconnected the leads to the coil and checked to see if the heating element was grounded out...NOPE...then checked continuity across thermostats and fuse and all was good. I then checked the start switch and it checked out as well.
What am I missing, how can I correct this?

You need to make sure all the wires are on the right terminals.
If they are you must have fried something when you dead shorted it. (tripped the breaker)
I would check the motor switch. Its heater contacts should be "open" when the motor is off.
Also check the timer. It might have welded some contacts together. You'll need the wiring diagram.

Also check the timer. It might have welded some contacts together. You'll need the wiring diagram. Looking at my wiring diagram the motor switch is M1/M2 or L-2Black and Purple from heater coil. I removed the white plastic piece (wire bank) from the motor that has about 6 different wires coming into it so I can get directly to the connectors they plug into. I located these two (black/purple) and checked them for continuity. According to the diagram the switch should be open...it is not. I have continuity and my multimeter beeps at me. Does this sound like I am in the right here? Derrick B.
