My PYG2300AWW is shrieking. The idler is fine. I've replaced the rear rollers, the glides, and the blower wheel, but there is still the noise when I turn the motor shaft by hand, so I'm thinking it must be the motor bearings.

First, one question - which way does the blower turn, clockwise or counterclockwise? It only squeals when I rotate clockwise, so maybe I'm turning the wrong way???

If it is the motor that is bad, I'm a little confused on the part number I need. The current motor has P/N 53-3687 and Model S58NXMMY-6912 on it. From my research, I'm finding I need part number 31001589, or W10410996, or AP5272116, among others. It looks like these are all replacements for each other, but none of them say they replace 53-3687. Will any of these motors be a correct fit?

The motor always pulls the belt to it and the idler pulley goes on the back/slack side to create the tension/ take up the slack.

So standing at the front of the dryer, I'd say it rotates clockwise. At least that's the way I remember it going. I haven't worked on one in 6 or 7 years.

The part numbers on older Maytag parts didn't match the real part numbers. Maytag was funny that way, real funny.

This should be your motor number if indeed its bad. Good luck. This message will self destruct in 10 years. :)

Thanks ThatGuy for your reply.

The cross references list all of the following part numbers: W10410996 (AP5272116) replaces 2024638, 31001015, 31001316, 31001473, 31001512, 31001589, 53-2275, 53-2567, 53-2590, 53-3251, AH3497647, EA3497647, PS3497647.

So I'm curious, are all of these exactly the same? I got advice from somewhere else saying that I need part number 31001015. So I'm wondering if all these motors bolt in the exact same way and have the same electrical connections, etc.

The number I gave you is the newest number for that part. Most of the other numbers are obsolete numbers.

If you have one of the old style motors it will look like the pic in my post. The replacement motor will look like the new part. It will come with instructions on how to hook it up.

Wanted to come back and report that I got my new motor, it went in the same way the old one came out, same electrical connections, everything running smooth and quiet now.

Thanks again for the help!
