I have a GE Monogram refrigerator that is leaking refrigerant like nobody's business. I have yet to find a refrigerant leak on the evaporator or condenser or the outside of the compressor or any lines. Is it possible for the compressor to be leaking on the inside where I could not detect it. It is a pretty bad leak. This may be a really stupid question but I had to ask.

Compressor is hermetically sealed and the outer shell of it is under low pressure so not very likely. There are inaccessible coolant lines that run through the cabinet. We call this the Yoder loop. Basically the compressor outputs a hot gas, it circulates through the condensor to cool, usually around the mullions and comes back to the filter dryer where it heads up to the evap as a warm liquid.

If you have a very quick leak it is probably in the high pressure side, meaning yoder loop, condenser, and filter/dryer. There are sometimes joints in the yoder loop and if you were to put a UV dryer on it you might get really lucky and see the dye squeeze out of the foam at some panel edge, but that has never happened for me. To be sure you'd need to isolate the loop, and see if you lose pressure. Meaning cut the lines at the condenser output and the larger end of the dryer and pressurize that loop.

How are you determining that it has a fast leak? Are you adding 4-5 oz of refrigerant repeatedly? Does it start cooling normally after it's added and then gradually stop cooling?
