Good Afternoon, I have an Electrolux Dryer(EWMED70JIW0) that was getting error code E64. I took it apart and started testing the heating parts as described in quite a few places and there was no continuity across one of the three coils. So clearly the Heating Element is my main culprit. I have one on order and should be installing it on Thursday or Friday. My question though is when I took the old element out the middle support structure is bent pretty badly to one side and I can see where that bad coil was actually contacting the outside wall of the element. Is there any concern/other parts I need to consider/order that could have caused this? I was surprised to see the middle bent to severally and the coil touching the side. It made me wonder is something else letting the element get to hot that causes something like this? Is this just the price of cheap manufacturing and a new element will do the trick? Something else? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Usually caused by a combination of things.
I'd check the vent and look for anything that would slow or limit the air flow.
Check the drum seals and the rear of the drum.
Some sagging just comes with age. Shorting can cause element over heating the section near the short. ( it can stay on after the dryer is off sometimes.)(120 to ground, no airflow)

I live in an older manufactured home with some limestone problems from the well. I was having to change the water heater element every couple of weeks. It got bad so we purged the hot water heater and have to actually scrape limestone out of it. The water pressure is fine, I don't have any other electrical problems.

You are in the wrong category as this is a clothes dryer ---not a water heater !

Thanks in advance for any advice. If you have not already repaired this dryer the coils should never touch the tube. If they do it will reduce the heating capacity and ultimately cause the heating coil to fail.
