Hi all! Very nice forum here.

My junk Calypso gave me the LD error 1 week ago (long drain). I took off the pump and noticed hair wrapped around the impeller and it looked like the teeth were stripped out of the top of it. I read online that they came out with a new design of pump and motor. I ordered it up and just installed it.

I began the cycle and the washer filled. As soon as it was supposed to nutate, nothing happened. I got the CE error (communications error). I reset and retried and got the LD error back.

So, I entered diagnostics mode and ran tests. I cannot get this thing to nutate. Since it won't enter that part of the cycle it won't recirculate. From the tests it seems that the pump is working. It just won't nutate or spin.

Where should I start? I don't want to buy a motor now and have 2-300 into this POS. Should I tear into the circuit board and test continuinty?

Thanks!!

Hi ArticcatMatt

These machines are very good washers when the work. When they don't, well, you have experienced what happens.

I don't believe there is any way to tear into the control unit and test it; when on site techs are working on your machine they just replace the board and see if that fixes it.

From you post I can tell you are fairly experienced at working on machines like this, and have done the appropriate thing in going through the diagnostic module. Since you have been unable to locate the problem, and since the possible suspects are all expensive parts and since we cannot isolate the part that is the problem and since it appears you have had problems in the past I would say it is time for a new machine. I strongly recommend a top loading washer with no computer controls, for reasons you have already experienced. It will clean your clothes just fine, cost less and can be easily and inexpensively repaired.

Sorry I could not provide more help or give better advice. Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out.

^ thanks for the reply!

I agree about the new machine. I went out last night to 4 stores and read online reviews and have deducted my purchase to this
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02637052000P

It got top honors on a washer review website and also 4.5/5 from customer reviews on sears. I was looking at other washers but they were not rated well by consumers.

The deal I got locally.. 650 + a 100 rebate so 550. $129 for a 5 year "bumper to bumper" warranty. So 679 and the thing has a 5 year complete warranty from an appliance store. I know I have to wipe the seal dry and run tablets thru it every once in awhile. I don't have a problem with that.

I like the benefits of a front loader (low water and energy usage).

I see people online paying 1100 for that washer just a few months ago.

Still thinking about it for one more day. They had a bosch there but reading online about that (100 series) it is garbage.

Well, good, I think you got a good deal and I like that brand. I am glad you did not get the Bosch.

I think you also posted on AJ and go pretty much the same advice as we gave you.

Thanks for updating us, and let us know from time to time how the machine works out.

Good luck.

^ Thanks. That makes me feel better. Buying a washer is like buying a vehicle I think!!

I am hoping to go get the new washer tommorrow and then tearing the calipso apart and parting it out on the online forums? or e bay .. I would like to AVOID e bay.

Times are tight (I am a designer for a supplier to the big 3.. buy domestic please!).. but I have to have a washer and refuse to buy another used one only to have it last a year like this calypso junk did.

I run my own forum ( Home Page ) and moderate a snowmbileforum. I value forums and I will be giving feedback on my new washer for sure!!!

Ok, that explains the Arcticcatmatt handle. Iused to live in Buffalo, where snowmobiling was a pretty big sport.

If it is any consolation to you, Frigidaire used to be owned by GM, so you do have some connection, albeit very tiny, with the domestic auto industry with your purchase.

Anyway, good luck and thanks for updating us, and again, let us know how the new machine compares to the old.
