Freezer gets cold but not enough to freeze. I've had this happen twice in 7 days. The first time I thought the door wasn't closed enough but since it happened a second time I'm starting to think it is something different.

The fridge stays cold but I have a feeling it feels cold but it was warmer than normal since I grabbed a soda and it wasn't as cold as usual. I think the problem has to do with the evaporator or whatever it is called getting to much ice on it thus it quites cooling. Everything starts to melt and eventually the part defrosts on it's own and starts working properly. I have read that I need a defrost timer but I'm not finding the part in the manual. The only part I see is called:

Bi-Metal Defrost Thermostat

******************** Number PS11750673
Manufacturer Part Number WPW10225581

Is this only part that is needed to control defrost or am I missing something. Also, does my logic on the issue seem valid?

Thanks

You may have figured out your problem, your unit does not have a timer like the old school models. Instead there is a thermistor attached to the evap coil. You say when everything defrosts alls good, are you manually defrosting? You can ohm it out with an ohm meter but you will need to remove it first to room temp. there should be resistance, not sure exactly the ohms. Also check the heater itself that could be bad, Are you getting excessive ice build up on coils? If you are getting frost on the freezer walls its a good indication that you have a defrost issue. From your description I would look there cause fan is working or fridge would get warm also. A cheap refrigerator would be a good investment to monitor temps. Please post back with results, hope I helped.

Thanks for the help. I'm not manually defrosting. I think it's doing it for me in the way of shutting down and then starting back up.

It did the same thing last night luckily it didn't last as long so it started freezing again quicker. I'm not getting any ice on the back wall. There is some airflow vents at the bottom on the inside where I can see part of the coil and I don't see any frost. When it starts working it seems to get colder than normal so I suspect it gets too cold and then shuts down and depending on how cold it was determines when it kicks back on. I think I may just get a new fridge. I need a counter depth fridge but I found one for a good price at Sears.

Please maintain this points, it’s very impotent for your freezer and freeze, those are.......

1. Efficient Energy Use
2. Ample Storage Capacity
3. Exterior Temperature Controls.

It finally stopped working so I just bought a new one. I got real lucky. I have a tight space since it's a small condo and I found a side by side that fit.

At first, you try turning the cold control to the "off" position or unplugging the fridge; this will stop the compressor. Do you hear or feel a differentiation? If so, the compressor was running. Wait several munities before turning the compressor back on for your indicative checks. And also check the freeze door rubber if any dispute you must change the rubber. I think in this way you take a result.
