My dryer has been leaving small black marks here and there on my laundry. I decided to clean out the drum and found a lump of black tarry-like substance where the baffle attaches to the drum. It was very thick and hard to get off. I ended up using a flat head screw driver covered by a cloth to scrape it off. I finished detailing the inside of the dryer and thought that would take care of it. Unfortunately, that just made the problem worse. I washed some old towels and threw them in the dryer and they came out with black marks all over them. I've done several more loads and it has decreased the number of black marks being left behind, which leaves me back at square one. Can anyone tell me what's causing it and how to fix it? Thanks for your help.

I've seen this as well. You will have to disassemble your machine to get rid of this completely. It comes from these pads on the inside of the machine. I think they are used to muffle, dampen the sound, but they tend to melt onto the drum and make their way inside. When cleaning it off completely try GooGone or a similar product.
