I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my dryer and if it is worth all cost of replacing parts or a new dryer. It is a stack unit so putting a little more cost into the dryer may be worth it.
It started with dryer not drying close. I've worked on some of these gas app before so I started checking things and realized my igniter was coming on and staying on for very long times and I wasn't getting any gas ignition. That generally leads me to believe the igniter is bad so I went ahead and changed that with a new one. At that point I tested the dryer it lit the first few cycles and then would fail to lite after it appeared that everything wormed up good. In my trouble shooting of parts I had removed wiring off the coils and put it back and found after messing with that wiring i would run the flame again for a time or two. So I replaced the coils thinking they may have been bad. That however didn't work and I still have the same issues of the drying working the first couple cycles after it sits awhile then no flame.
This is what I've discovered. doesn't matter what heat setting or timer setting all does the same thing. You start the dryer and runs for the few seconds then igniter comes on. Igniter will heat up then gas valve opens 15 seconds or so after that. goes through a heat cycle then shuts off the burner. Burner will usually lit for average of two more cycles after that then it would heat up anymore. Igniter will come on before but just stays on continually and I get no flame. What I found though is that if i tap on the exposed end of the gas valve out to the front end of the dryer when the igniter has been on for awhile the gas valve clicks and flame comes on instantly. not a hard tap. I can do it with the end or a screwdriver or even with my finger. Just a tap and it opens and lights the flame.
So i'm starting to wonder if my gas valve it going be itself if a tap makes it open? But i'm looking for some opinions b/c that is starting to get into some more expensive parts. So I'd like some thoughts before just buying a new valve.

I think you've answered you own question... Yes it sounds as if the valve needs to be replaced if tapping on it loosens it causing it to open.
