I cleaned out a lint clog from the lint chute, and after getting the chute out, I found that the seal between the drum and the chute had badly deteriorated and nearly crumbled to bits. I looks like it is just a piece of low or medium density foam weather stripping. I have some leftover weather stripping I could use to replace the old seal. Has anyone done this or know if it is OK to use regular weather stripping to replace the seal, or should I but the seal made specifically for the dryer? Will the temperature of the lint chute get too high for regular weather stripping? Thanks for any suggestions.

My problem is that there is about 12 feet total of worn out, dry-rotted foam seal tape that needs to be replaced in my 110-85861400 Kenmore Elite HE4 dryer. I have done every internet search I can think of to find a length of foam seal tape, and cannot find anything but small cut pieces for specific purposes. How can I find where the companies, like you guys, order this tape so I can get more than just a little piece? Or is it OK to use weather stripping since that's all that ever comes up on my searches? Someone who was supposed to know what they were talking about told me to just use weather stripping, but I was concerned about the heat factor.
I just want to fix my dryer. I've been without one for months now, and it's very hard to work full-time without one.

Regular weather stripping is not good for high temps but it may work OK. try it and see if it comes off or deteroirates quickly. That area of the dryer is not quite as hot as other sections.

I have spent hours searching the internet for 3/8in X 3/8in open cell foam tape, weather-stripping, WHATEVER...and am beyond frustrated that I can't seem to find that particular combination ANYWHERE!! Is all weather-stripping closed cell? Does that matter? And how about the thickness? Mine all measures 3/8in thick. If I need to choose, do I go thicker or thinner>
