My Whirlpool electric range is about 20 months old. Just recently, we noticed that things in the oven seemed to cook fast and burn. I bought an oven thermometer and put it in. I turned on the oven and set it to 350 degrees. Well, it got there and kept on going. It got up to 550 degrees, and then I turned it off.
I pulled the oven temp sensor and tested the continuity (at room temp). It was 1079 ohms, which I've read is correct. I then tested the broiler element and the bake element, which were 18 and 24, which I also understand is correct.
I suspect a wonky control board. I'm hesitant to drop $300 to fix a $500 stove. And of course it's out of warranty (12 months). Is there anything else that could cause this?

Here are your parts Parts for WFE366LVS - AppliancePartsPros.comYou will have to choose the correct unit from the Matching Model Numbers. See the attachment for the tech sheet. Since you checked the element resistances, I am assuming that you have removed power from the unit and it did not reset (fix) itself. Unplug the unit and The wires going from the control board to the elements. It is important to disconnect the elements so that you do not read an alternate/parallel circuit. Now check the relays. Con2-4 to Con 2-7 and Con2-4 to Con2-1. Both should be infinite ohms. If one is not then that relay's contacts are welded together. Then either you or a friend etc. could just replace the relay. I also would not put that many dollars into the unit. I may be worth calling Whirlpool. Sometimes if you get a person that is in the right mood they can help even out of warranty folks. and you are not that far out. At least it is worth a try. |

Thanks for the help. I'll try testing the relays. Also, that is correct, it did not reset itself after I plugged it back in.
