Trying to help my father in law hook up his ice maker. Connected the water lines and plugged the power in. Water began to flow and fill the ice tray, issue is water never sopped flowing w]even when tray was full the water kept filling. Not sure which part needs to be replaced but I know one does for sure. If anyone could point me to the part that controls the water regulation that would be great.

Thanks

Here are your parts
Parts for Whirlpool GT9SHKXMQ03 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

First check for voltage across the water valve.

If there is no voltage then the problem is a bad water valve re: not closing.

Thanks the issue was the water value. One of the rubber orings was out of place and kept the value open. Replaced the orings and seems to be working now after 3 successful cycles.

Thanks again

You are welcome.

And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.
