My icemaker is a Component model CAN9. I want to test the ice mold heater by applying 120V direct to the wires coming out of the heater. Can I do this without damaging the unit. If not, how can I test the heater? Please respond. Bob

You could test it by applying 120 but a safer way would be to check it for resistance.
I do not know what that resistance should be but would imagine it will be under 200 ohms so use the most sensitive resistance scale on your meter.
The ice maker will probably have to be frozen as they probably have a thermostat in circuit which will kill power to the element just above freezing. |
