Need to replace cold control part number ARB2117AS says discontinued nice fridge does thi mean i have to trash it for a $50.00 part

I would take it to a local parts supply house and they may have one that will work.

Try to get one with a capillary tube that is about the same length as the end of the capillary must be placed in the same position as the original.

You will probably have to jiggery pokery the mounting of it and maybe how you adjust it. But then how often do you need to adjust a fridge temperature so it should not cause a hassle.
The freezer should be 0 to 3 degrees F and the fresh food in the 36 to 38 range.
It may take you a couple days to get it set correctly.

I managed to get a replacement part. It looks like there is a long probe type wire attached to it. Where does thie go? initially nit looked like a couple of screws to remove and replace. Do I need to do some forensics to attach this wire type probe throught the fridge?

Take a look in section 5 of the parts.

I am confuse by your question as the one in the unit shouls also have a capillary tube, see below

So hopefully when I remove the old part there will be a capillary tube in the unit (the fridge) so I can simply slide the probe wire through it and it will navigate itself to the proper position?
