i have this ge fridge that ive had for 13 years. i had the control board, defrost heater repaired 4 years ago. at the time the tech also told me the damper assembly needed repaired. i choose not to do the damper and paid the 300+ bill and went on my way. its worked fine since then. temp setting at like 5 on both fridge and freezer with no issues. here lately its been freezing the milk and water in the fridge. so i pulled the damper and shoved a towel in the passthru hole hoping to help temporary before fixing or buying a new fridge. my question is do i need a control board as well? did not fixing the damper slowly take the control board out? with the damper out and fan not pulling the freezer air in i thought it would help bring the temp down but overnight at least it did not so thats when the towel went in the passthru hole. even when i drop the temp setting to 1 the compressor kicks in which i dont think is right. it shows 40 on the cheapo thermometer i put in the fridge so i dont think it should be calling for the compressor to be on. freezer side is all frozen so its not like it should be calling for compressor for the freezer temp and then sending the cold air to the fridege. thoughts? or should i just buy a new fridge as its near or nearing the end of its useable life?
