We have a True gdm-10pt cooler. I replaced the thermostat today. It appears to be working but the thermostat is at its warmest setting and the temp in the unit is about 34 degrees. We would like it to be about 4-5 degrees higher. The sensor on the thermostat did not look exactly the same as the one I pulled out. The end of the thermostat coil goes into a hole that is between the coils in the cooling area. The old sensor had a larger diameter end. The one the end is the same diameter as the rest of the coil (tube) leading to the thermostat itself.
I am wondering, if I reduced the depth of the sensor that is going into the coils, what would that do to the thermostats sensing ability.
Also, the circulating fan is mounted above the shelving. Would partially covering the circulating fan grill (Maybe 20% covered), would that 1. damage the unit or 2. Help to raise the temp a small amount.
Any other ideas as to how I could get the thermostat to raise the temp just a bit.

The unit will still try to get to the thermostat's set point.

So if you can get it to sit where it would be colder in the unit then that will raise the temperature in the rest of the unit. Perhaps lower down since cold air is heavier than warm air or closer to the cooling coils.
As a last resort many thermostat's have a small screw on the back that can adjust the set point temperature. This screw is usually marked/locked with red locktite/nailpolish. You could try adjusting that. Note that it is very sensitive so adjust it in small steps also be sure to note how far and in what direction you turn it as it is very easy to mess it up and never be able to get it back to where it was. |
