At first the light was flashing and a fan was running. It was not the down draft fan, or at least doesn't seem to be. This was intermittent. We replaced the sensor and it seemed to have fixed it, but the next day the light came on, stayed on and the fan is running constantly. The oven heats up fine.
Any ideas?

Here are your parts Parts for SVE47500 - AppliancePartsPros.comYou will have to choose the correct unit in the Matching Model Numbers section. I think the B and W just refer to colour. Here is a service manual. You will have to join the site and be logged in to be able to download it. Also it covers lots of units so you have to be careful when using it. I am assuming that the light you mention is the oven light. Since the cooling fan and oven light are controlled by the control board that is what I think is shot. It is very unlikely that both control relays on the relay board would go bad at the same time. |

Thank you for your response. I don't see the link to the service manual. I clicked on the link to the parts but could not find one called control board. Are you referring to the relay board?
Yes, I was referring to the oven light.
Are there two items - control board and relay board? Within the relay board are there control relays for both the fan and the light? Are you saying that since they wouldn't likely go out at the same time then the problem is not in the relay board but in the control board? Is that the part that is behind the control panel on the front of the stove? 3 years ago we soldered in a new something(capacitor maybe?) when the control panel wouldn't light up. Is it possible we need to solder a new one for this problem?

The relay board is items 28 or 28 in section 03.
The control board is item 3 in section 04. It may be obsolete.

I think the manual is 16010191 and says something about "slide in" in the manuals title.

No.
This looks more like a logic problem.
The previous problem was due to a bad electrolytic capacitor that feeds power to the fluorescent display not holding a charge so the display did not get enough voltage to light it up. |

What do you mean by a logic problem? Or I guess what I am really asking it, will a logic problem require replacing the entire control board?

A solid stae device (transistor or integrated circuit) is turning the fan and oven light on when it should not.

Yes
Manufacturers do not publish schematics of the boards.
There are companies out there that will repair control boards /timers. |

Thank you. It looks like the control board is no longer available. At least I didn't see it in that link you sent.
Also, do you think it is safe to continue to use it for awhile?
It will take some research to replace it as it is in an island. The downdraft stoves out there seem to be so expensive so we will need to consider installing a vent hood or something in the ceiling.

Yes it should be OK to use for a while.
If you want to cut down on electrical usage you could remove the oven bulb. |
