I'm having an issue with my ice auger drum. I believe it's also called the "helix". From what I can tell, it should spin as the auger spins to push the ice into the blades and out the dispenser. But my helix/drum spins freely and is not attached or "catching" on the auger. The auger shaft seems to be completely round the entire length, as opposed to a part where it should be flat in order to "lock in" with the helix blade. Is it possible I have the wrong auger?(it is a hand me down fridge, and for some odd reason the end of the auger shaft does poke out through a hole in the ice assembly).

Any and all advice on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

I was having the same issue with my GE refrigerator. Here is how I fixed it:
