I have a Kenmore model number 417.97962703 washer and dryer combination. I broke the water level knob off of it. The stem of the knob is still inside the washer. There is a little phillips head screw slightly above and to the right of the knob stem. How do I install a new knob? Thanks for any replies.

Check and make sure you didn't break part of the stem, that almost always happens in this situation. If so you will need to replace the switch. It should then just press on.

The part of the knob stem that broke off is flush with the washer panel, so I assume I snapped the switch stem too. Should the switch stem stick out past the panel? If so, how do I replace the switch? If the switch stem does not protrude above the panel and is not broken, then how do I remove the part of the knob stem that broke off? Thanks.

If the stem is broken at all you will probably have to replace the switch. This is done by opening up the console.
