My GE washer was leaking from the bottom and making a load sound when spinning. Replaced the tub bearing and tub seal. In getting the bearing off of the shaft and drive assembly damaged it so replaced it as well. Put everything back together and now the machine will not agitate or spin unless I manually start the agitator. (Prior to this repair the machine agitated and spun.) I bypassed the lid switch so if I stay by the machine and manually start the agitator for wash and spin cycles they work after they catch. I can hear and feel a clicking sound when the washer catches in the wash cycle. Any ideas where I go next to try and fix this. After reading the forum I think I have a agitator coupling issue or the motor is bad. Of course I'm hoping for the first because of the price difference.
I thought I'd get the opinion of the experts. Thanks!

If you can hear the motor turning before you manually turn the agitator, then you may have a slipping belt. I thought this model has a belt rather than a coupler? I doubt the motor fried if it was good before the repairs. It would help if you could see it run with the front of the cabinet off. You got the hub nut and all that tight enough? With luck, it could be the drive bell/ drive block under the agitator.

I do have the front cover off and it does have a belt. The belt seems tight. What I hear to know the agitator should be turning is a click from the motor.
I think it is a good idea to check the tightness of the nuts. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just observed belt and it was not slipping. Motor still makes a click when it Is supposed to engage but just does not seem to engage unless I do it manually.
I also tightened the tub nut in case it was lose. Any other suggestions?

DID YOU REPLACE THE WHOLE SHAFT AND TUBE ASSEMBLY? sorry about the caps lock. if you did replace it, is the wire harness plugged in okay? the motor could be bad but so can the drive tube assembly, in my opinion. There may be a bad capacitor, I will have to examine the diagram.

I did replace the whole shaft and tube assembly. Just re-checked the wire harness and it is secure.
