Hi- Hoping someone can help with diagnosis: The door lock light comes on when the washer is turned to run (knob to wash cycle selection and knob pulled out), but nothing happens (no water, nothing runs) and the door DOES open (fails to lock).
It would seem that the lock assy is bad, but how do I know that the door is just not locking because the inlet valve is bad (how can I know which one is the problem or if both are bad)?
Surprisingly, the lock costs much more than the valve control (about 4x as much), so I don't want to spend the money just to find out it was the valve control.
Thanks for any help!
Joe

With these front loaders this can be a number of things. Inside the lower service panel are some tech notes that will tell you how to test the critical components, and be sure and include both boards and the connections and the door lock assembly.
If you do decide to replace parts on spec and buy from this site you can return them if they do not fix the problem.

If you do decide to replace parts on spec and buy from this site you can return them if they do not fix the problem. It was the door lock assy. I didn't find the tech sheet much help, frankly, as it was indicating a huge task, testing out various components which did not involve the door lock at all and would have required me to pull the combo out of the tight space, disconnnect everything, remove a number of panels, etc, etc, and I still would have ended up at square one. What I decided to do was order the door lock assy, betting that that was it. I pulled the old part and found that testing all of the connections was useless -- all of the readings were identical to the new part. But based on the fact that the door lock solenoid was pretty powerful, I figured if the door had been locking, the sound would be unmistakeable. The door was clearly not locking, which meant the contacts inside the assy were not meeting. I replaced the part, the washer worked. Problem solved -- and all I had to do was pull the door seal away to do the job -- took 15 min. tops. I was hoping someone had run into a similar problem, but since no one else responded, I had to guess -- based on your suggestions, so thanks very much for your response!:)
