My Hotpoint Washing Machine runs fine except sometimes it does not spin during the spin cycle, it still pumps out the water and sprays fresh water when it is supposed to. If I stay with the washer while it runs through the cycles and if it doesn't spin I push in the knob to turn it off and pull it back out and it kicks in and spins. Is this a timer issue or another problem.

Could be the timer or the transmission. Listen to the washer to hear whats going on. After agitation stops, it should go into drain without spin for a full 2 minutes. After the 2 minute period, the timer should turn the drive motor off and then back on again at which point it should start spinning while continuing to drain. The pause of the motor causes the transmission to shift out of neutral. If there is no pause of the motor, then the timer is faulty. If there is a pause but it won't go into spin then you would need to remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch so that you can observe what's going on with the clutch to determine if the transmission is the problem.

Thanks Eric,
I will have to watch it go through a full wash cycle, when it did not go into spin as soon as it started the pump out I turned it off and back on again, I guess that did the same as what you said about it pumping out for two minutes than stopping and restarting.

Yes, by turning the washer off and back on you manually paused the motor, so I suspect your washer is working just fine. 2 minutes is a long time when your just standing there waiting and it generally takes far less than 2 minutes for the washer to actually drain but it still has to wait the full 2 minutes before it will switch to spin.
