I've seen many posts about the cabrio lid defect where the plastic cracks and the glass comes away from the lid. I am on my second round with this issue and like many others wish I could scrap the thing, but the cost of a new lid (~$200) is still cheaper than replacing the whole thing.
As best I can figure, the cause seems to be the springs that keep the lid up are too strong and are causing the plastic on the lid to crack over time. My question is whether the machine will still function properly if I simply removed the spring assemblies from both sides, or just removed the springs? I realize I'll lose the "neato" springy function of the lid, but I'm now over $400 in replacement lids! Do I really care about springy?
If anyone knows if the function will be significantly affected by removing the springs, please let me know.
Thanks.
