Hi, I am looking for a lightbulb for my LG fridge (believe it's that same part as for the Kenmore fridge - part # 6912JK2002E).

Can I use just any plain incandescent 40 watt bulb ?

The actual part (6912JK2002E) seems to sell for $17-$22 everywhere. One place even sells it for $45.71 (BestlightCA - http://www.amazon.ca/LG-Electro...candescent/dp/B00AH5ZZ4E ).

Is it just me or is it ridiculous to pay that much for a 40 watt incandescent lightbulb.

One of my local service shops told me that I can easily use a plain bulb that I can purchase at a Dollar Store for a $1.00
I just wanted to confirm that it is safe and that I am not going to set my house on fire.
Is there anything special about the authentic part or is it just an overpriced regular bulb?

Can I use a energy saving CFL bulb 9W = 40W ??

Thank you for any assistance with this.

Hi.

I believe you can use a regular incandescent appliance bulb as long as it fits to the original parameters: 40Watts, 120Volts, regular base size. You will have a hard time to find the same color.

Thank you,

Simon.

Thank you Simon,
Does the color matter?
How is appliance bulb different from a regular incandescent bulb?
And can I use a energy saving CFL bulb 9W = 40W ?
Thanks again
Mike

Hi.

The color would be your personal preference. I do not recommend to use a CFL bulbs, unless you are planning to use the refrigerator as a kitchen light :)
I am not sure a 100% but the appliance bulb suppose to lust longer in the low temp, high moisture climate.

Thank you,

Simon.
