My washer didn't spin or pump out water, so I replaced the clutch. Agitator bolt points sheared off, so I had to cut out the agitator to get at it, and replaced the agitator and agitator bolt too.

Now it fills, spins and pumps out but doesn't agitate, just sits and hums. Timer works normally. The agitator turns freely in the tub.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Well, the clutch doesn't have anything to do with the drain function so that's kind of strange. You may have a faulty timer. Just because it advances normally doesn't mean all the internal contacts are working correctly. I would suggest pulling the drain pump off the motor shaft (leave hoses connected) and use pliers to rotate the motor shaft CCW. This should be easy and cause the lower agitator to go back and forth. If that works ok, then I would replace the timer. Timer can be returned if it does not fix the problem.

When I first rotated the shaft, the clutch hit the brake. After rotating the clutch clockwise slightly, the shaft would turn and the agitator moved. started a cycle and again it fills normally, hums and doesn't turn when agitation is called for (if I leave it there a thermal(?) overload kicks out for about 10 minutes) and I moved it to spin and the washer spins and empties.
Should the clutch contact the brake?

The clutch is not used and is not driven during agitation cycle. Pull the motor and set it on the floor still hooked up. Put your foot on it before starting as it will jump if it does run. See if it will run in agitation cycle. This washer has a dry agitate function. If you set the timer one click before the normal drain cycle, it will agitate without having to fill it with water. If the motor won't run sitting on the floor in agitate cycle, you probably have a bad timer. If it does run ok, try rotating the transmission input shaft CCW. It should be easy and should cause the lower agitator to go back and forth. If it is binding up, there may be something stuck under the agitator or the transmission may be faulty.
