Our dryer stopped working the other day. It wouldn't work unless the start button was held in. I figured it was in the timer. Bought the new timer at Dayco in Columbus this afternoon. Installed it and now the dryer will run but has no heat. What am I missing? Did something else go out that ruined the timer? Thank you for your help!

Odd symptoms. The motor not running unless you hold the start switch is caused by a faulty motor (bad centrifugal switch). A faulty timer cannot cause that symptom. Does the timer advance on it's own when timer is in timed dry cycle?

The timer didn't advance yesterday when I placed something against the start button for 10-15 minutes. That was my reason for thinking it was a bad timer. So I put the new timer on and it starts and stays on and the timer advances but no heat. Thank you for your help!

Unplug the dryer, open the control panel and with timer in OFF position, check continuity with a multimeter between timer A terminal and X terminal (red wire and orange wire). Should be near zero ohms. If it's open or reads a high resistance, you need to test the thermal cutoff (top component on heater box), hi limit thermostat (lower component on heater box), operating thermostat (device on blower housing with red/white and red wires). If no problem found with those, check the heat coil. Should read around 10 to 12 ohms.
