The washer will fill and agitate. But when it's time for the cycle to advance to drain and spin before it refills to rinse, it stops and won't advance. If I advance it manually, it still does not drain nor will it spin.

Timer problem?

It's about $160 for the timer alone, so I'm wondering if it's worth replacing on washer this old? On the other hand I hate all of the electronics on new washers.

Fix or toss? It's Memorial Day weekend so there are not only a lot of sales but it's also tax-free weekend if I buy an Energy Star compliant washer.

Faulty lid switch. These switches are prone to breaking apart and can be glued back together, cinched with a small plastic tie wrap or just replaced.

Thank you, Eric. You were exactly right. I took the lid switch out and it had come apart and wasn't making contact properly. I was able to temporarily repair it while I order a replacement.

Is there a video or instructions on how to replace it? I don't even know how to "open" the top of the washer to get to the wiring.

Thanks!

There's a video on the linked page for the part.
