I have a Hotpoint side by side refrigerator model # HSS25GFPEWW that is eight years old. For the past year the ice dispenser and water dispenser has worked intermittently. Early last week the freezer section became too warm and food would not stay frozen near the top. I moved all the food to the downstairs fridge, cleaned the condensor coils, and found the evaporator coils were iced over. I unplugged the fridge and used a hair dryer to remove all the ice from the evaporator coils. I plugged it back in and within a few hours ice was starting to form to the point joining two of the lower coils of the evaporator together. A local parts supplier had a defrost heater so I replaced the heater. At this point the frezzer would not cool at all. Both the condensor fan and the evaporator fan turn on and off when the encoder is dialed up or down for either the freezer or fridge sections. The compressor seems to be running when the fans turn on, though it is very quiet. It gets very warm to the touch but not hot, and you can feel it vibrate. At this point I replaced the mother board. I did not cut the jumper wire in the J1 plug, as there was no jumper wire in the positions one and two of the plug, and the serial number on the fridge did not match the first three characters for the affected encoders that require this step. After replacing the mother board nothing changed. So I replaced the capacitor, the evaporator heater thermostat, and the compressor PTCR start switch in that order....still no cooling. I have used genuine GE replacement parts throughout. My next thought is to put the two thermistors in ice water and check resistance at the J1 plug to see if I get 16.3 megaohms. Then replace the overload on the compressor though I can't imagine that is the problem. At this point I would think that I have lost my freon or the compressor has froze, but that does not explain how I was getting an icing problem on the evaporator coils just before I replaced the heater....anyone have any insight?

Our approx. 11 y/o Hotpoint has coils that are freezing up so the freezer doesn't freeze. New motherboard, new thermostat, new defrost thermostat and still not working. We "think" it could be the Defrost Heater but are not certain. We live in a foreign country where such things are not readily available, so don't want to order up a part that might not work.
