Hello. I'm trying to diagnose if the thermistor, control panel or drum motor is failing on my Whirlpool GEW9200LW1 dryer.
After a normal weekend of several laundry loads as I opened the dryer door (after it finished the latest load), it smelled like plastic burning / melting. The smell went away quickly. I looked the dryer over, didn't find anything out of the normal, and dismissed the smell as something the kids left in their pockets that got washed / dried.
For the next load, set the controls and pressed start. I heard a single beep and the solenoid click for the dryer motor but the dryer didn't start. I changed the settings (from normal load to timed dry), tried again, same thing. I changed the settings again to Heavy Duty, the dryer started this time. However, it stopped after about 5 minutes, but the setting / control panel lights were still on as if it was running with the remaining time left on the cycle. I was able to get it started again, timed dry, dryness setting set to max, again stopped after about 5 minutes.
Let it sit overnight, tried normal and timed dry settings (normal dryness level) and the dryer didn't start just a beep and click of the solenoid.
Additional info, I replaced the heating element, thermal sensor and thermistor sensor about 18 months ago and it has run fine until last night. Also, no error codes have come up on the display.
Thank you for any insight on what might be wrong with it.

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool GEW9200LW1 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. Sounds like the drum may have too much drag and is overloading the motor. If you can get the unit to start right after it shuts down it will not be a motor over heating issue. If you have to wait several minutes before it will re-start then that points to an overheat. The motor must cool down so it's internal thermal protect can reset. Try turning the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a coiple other units, to get a feel for it. If it is too uch drag youwill have to open it up to find the cause. Below is a link to a manual which may be useful to you. Denmen - Thank you for the reply, but that didn't fix the dryer. I replaced the motor and while I was at it, also the rollers, belt, tension pulley and blower wheel.
Before I installed the motor, I checked the operation of the dryer first, tried multiple settings, control panel lights on as expected, pressed start, heard a beep and the click for the motor to start.
After installing the motor, exactly as per the video on the website and I checked the wiring instructions included with the motor, it is still doing the same thing. Beep, click and nothing. No error codes or any indication there is something wrong besides it not running.
Any ideas?

Additional comment, not fixed yet, just an additional wrinkle. Tried to start the dryer again for grins. Dryer started, but now it won't turn off. With the dryer control panel turned off, when I shut the door, the dryer turns on, heating element is turning on as well. It appears the control settings are no longer controlling the dryer, I can turn them on and turn them off, with no effect on the dryer running. Only way to stop it is to open the door or unplug the dryer.
I'm totally baffled now... Please enlighten me.

FIXED - Did some additional research online and all symptoms pointed to a bad control board. Pulled the board and the back of the circuit panel is scorched on the motor circuit. Bad board. Ordering another.
Even though I found the fix on another site, you guys are my first choice as you've helped me fix my appliances numerous times.
