Two weeks ago some of the food in my fridge and the water line was frozen for a couple of days. Then it got better and did it again a couple days after that. Then it seemed fine till I noticed the freezer started thawing out. At that time I noticed the fridge was not as cold as it should be either. Temp. running about 50-55. I cleared it all out & freezer too. There was a lot of ice frozen over on the coils in the back of the freezer. I unplugged it to defrost. I checked the compressor ohms…seemed good. The fan by the compressor is running. The fan inside the freezer is running. The compressor comes on when plugged in both fans work. After it is plugged in for a few hours it shuts off for about 30 min. then it comes back on. (Im assuming the adaptive defrost timer is working). When the temp. control knob for the fridge is turned off I can hear the opening close & then no air blows in. When turned back on it opens and I can feel air blowing in. When the freezer temp. control knob is turned off the compressor shuts off. When it is turned back on the compressor starts back up. Now it's all cleaned out and defrosted. I plugged it back in and it does not cool at all. I don't see any frost on the coils in the back of the freezer. What should I check next? Thank you so much for any ideas!

If I understand your post the compressor is running but there is no frost at all on the evaporator/freezer coils.
If you have let it run for about half an hour and there is still no frost then it is a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair and often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. |
