I have a Whirlpool direct drive unit that fills just fine, but once filled, it sounds like the motor kicks in for the wash cycle, yet the agitator/tub does nothing. When it goes to rinse, it pumps out without a problem, but it never goes into spin cycle.
I thought the coupler had failed, but it was intact. I replaced it anyway, since I had the machine torn down and the part in hand.
So, since nothing has changed in this repair, I'm looking for the next possibility. Suggestions??

Rotate the transmission input shaft by hand, use one half of the coupler or use pliers. Rotate CCW which should cause the lower part of the agitator to go back and forth. Rotate CW which should cause the clutch hub (directly above the transmission) to rotate. In the CW direction, it may take a few turns before the spin pawl engages the spin gear. If neither result is obtained, the transmission is bad.
