My Maytag LDG8166AAE gas dryer is not heating. I'm trying to test it usng the procedures outlined in this forum but am having trouble because I am entirely inexperienced and my ohm meter doesn't seem to be working. I want to bypass the thermal fuse by clipping the wires together temporarily as a diagnostic tool but I'm not sure which fuse is the thermal fuse. I looked at diagrams on appliancepartspros.com but still can't figure it out. Can anyone tell me exactly where this thing is located? Any help is very much appreciated.

The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it. Is it an American model?

Gene,

Thanks for the quick response. It is a common enough American model so I must have typed the Model Number in wrong. I played with it over the weekend with an ohm meter and finally narrowed things down to the metal piece that glows to ignite the gas (heating element?). I purchased and installed a replacement and all is well. Three hours of diagnostics because I didn't know what I was doing and about fifteen minutes to fix it.

I don't often do my own home repairs and had never even looked inside a dryer before. This forum was invaluable during the process to give me an idea of what to look for. Many thanks to all who contribute.

Darin
