(Top loading, direct drive washer) My wife told me that the washer (about 23 years old) was making a loud clunking noise and the clothes were getting wrapped around the agitator. I took apart the agitator and found the dogs essentially gone, so I bought the kit (285811) and replaced the associated parts. Today she said the noise was worse (clunking associated with movement of agitator). When I got home, I inspected the agitator dogs, and everything looked great. (History: about a year ago I replaced the coupler.) So it sounds like it might be the transmission (gear case). I see that lots of folks post videos, so I made a couple -- one with a small load of jeans, and one with no clothes in the washer. Here are links to the videos: 0313151827 - YouTube http://youtu.be/XsfbI9aztGsYour thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Craig

Thanks, Eric. The transmission got here yesterday, and I did the job in about 2 and 1/2 hours. (I'm slow...) The washer is running great. The only go-back was to reconnect the drain hose better (had a little mess on the floor). Also thanks to YouTube for great step-by-step tutorials.
